Latta Public School is honored to announce their 2019-2020 Teachers of the Year.

Mrs. Kristi Smith has been named the 2019-2020 Latta Elementary Site and District Teacher of the Year, and Mrs. Tammy Collins has been named as Latta’s Secondary Site Teacher of the Year.  Click here for more information.  

 

Recently the Latta Board of Education voted to name the Latta Elementary Library in honor of longtime Latta educators Phil and Mary Shivers.  On April 24th at 6:00 p.m., there will be a short dedication ceremony in the elementary library, followed by a reception which will be held in the cafeteria.  All Latta staff members, past employees, students and patrons of Latta School are invited to attend.

 

FCCLA attended their State Convention Thursday, April 4. Caroline Skaggs was elected as the 2019-2020 State Executive Council President. Hope Wear was also elected onto the State Executive Council. Kyndal Schlup placed 1st in STAR Events. Kaleigh Russell and Abby Grand placed 3rd in their STAR Events. FCCLA also placed 3rd in the Oklahoma Challenge Distracted Driving Contest. FCCLA was also a Gold Star Chapter this year!

 

Friday, November 30, the FCCLA hosted a Chili Cook-Off against Latta Teachers/Staff. The winners of the Cook-Off were: 1st Place Terry Painter, 2nd Place Terra Fortner and 3rd Place Pam Skaggs.  Congratulations!

 

LATTA SCHOOLS ANNOUNCES THE ADDITION OF SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER

On Monday, October 1, the Latta Board of Education voted to enter into an agreement with the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office to provide a school resource officer to the district.  Deputy Brent Rhoads has been assigned to the Latta Schools PK through 12 campus by Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian.  The agreement requires the school to pay the county for the services of Deputy Rhoads.  In addition to providing security on the campus, Deputy Rhoads will also serve on school safety committees, provide staff and student safety training and work to establish positive relationships between the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office, the students and the community.

Superintendent Cliff Johnson stated, “ Latta Schools is excited about this new partnership with the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office.  This agreement will allow us to provide a secure learning environment for our students, staff and community.”

Niche.Com recently released its 2018 Best Schools in America and they have rated Latta Public Schools as the 12th best school district in Oklahoma.  Latta Public Schools achieved this ranking by scoring highly on a variety of factors including test scores, student-teacher ratio and reviews from students and parents.  In response to Latta Public School receiving this honor, Latta Schools Superintendent Cliff Johnson stated, “This ranking and recognition by Niche.Com is a reflection of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by our students, teachers and staff as well as the staunch support that we receive from the Latta Community.”
