Teacher of the Year

Latta Public Schools is honored to announce the 2018-2019 Teachers of the Year.

Mrs. Tiffany Oliphant has been selected as the 2018-2019 Latta District Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year.  Ms. Jill Blevins has been honored as the 2018-2019 Latta Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Tiffany Oliphant, who was also the 2015-2016 Secondary Site Teacher of the Year, is the Algebra I and Algebra II teacher at Latta Public Schools.  She is a proud graduate of East Central University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree.

She is married to her husband of nineteen years,  Darren Oliphant. Together, they have four children: Kaley, Brandon, Preshaya, and Calaya Oliphant.

Mrs. Oliphant is currently in her eighteenth year of teaching, the last six years being at Latta. Prior to teaching at Latta, she taught at Pauls Valley, Wanette, and Konawa.

When asked why she teaches, she said “I teach because I love being around my students who work hard and push themselves to be the best they can be.  I also love helping them to truly understand how to solve problems and not just memorize rules or formulas.  It’s the best feeling when they figure the problems out and show different methods on how they achieved their answer.  I love math!”

She is a valued member of the teaching staff.

Ms. Jill Blevins is a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at Latta Public Schools.  She is a  graduate of East Central University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.

Prior to teaching at Latta, Ms. Blevins taught at Sulphur and Bethel Public Schools. This is her fifth year at Latta.

She has two children, Tyson Blevins and Linlee Blevins.

She said that “I  knew right off I wanted to be an early childhood teacher.  I wanted to be able to make a difference in young children’s lives.  I feel little ones need to have someone to help them believe in themselves, become more independent, and make good choices.  I want to help them achieve that.”

Latta is honored to have Ms. Blevins.
