Latta COVID-19/Pandemic Plan Summary

LATTA PUBLIC SCHOOLS
COVID-19/PANDEMIC PLAN SUMMARY


Student and Staff Well Being:


1. Staff


A. Staff will receive training in COVID-19 safety including:
    ● Washing hands with soap & water for at least 20 seconds
    ● Avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth
    ● Covering coughs and sneezes
    ● Avoiding contact with others when sick


B. Staff will be encouraged to wear masks and/or shields and maintain
social distancing to the extent possible.


C. Staff members will be required to take their own temperature and
complete a self-screening prior to coming to work on a daily basis.


D. Staff members who have a temperature above 100 degrees or have
COVID-like symptoms will be required to stay at home.


E. Signage will be posted around the campus to reinforce proper
procedures and safety related to the spread of COVID-19 including proper
hygiene and social distancing.
 

2. Students


A. Students will receive training in COVID-19 safety including:
    ● Washing hands with soap & water for at least 20 seconds
    ● Avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth
    ● Covering coughs and sneezes
    ● Avoiding contact with others when sick


B. Masks - parents will be surveyed about the use of masks


C. Parents will be responsible to screen their students daily for
COVID-19 symptoms including fever above 100 degrees, loss of
smell or taste, muscle aches, shortness of breath, sore throat,
cough, chills, headache, nausea/vomiting and diarrhea. Latta School
will conduct additional temperature checks at the school.


D. Students who have a temperature above 100 degrees or have
COVID-like symptoms will be required to stay at home.


E. Signage will be posted around the campus to reinforce proper
procedures and safety related to the spread of COVID-19 including
proper hygiene and social distancing.


F. Social/Emotional Learning: Tiered response and intervention
strategies will be administered.


3. If Someone Becomes Sick:


A . Sick staff members


     ● It is important that staff members are vigilant for symptoms and stay in
touch with the administration or their supervisor if or when they start to
feel sick.
     ● Sick staff members are to leave work if they become ill and will not return
until they meet the criteria to return to work.

 

B. Sick students

     ● Latta School will communicate with parents the importance of keeping
children home when they are sick.
     ● Sick students will be moved to an isolated area or an area away from the
other students until they can be sent home. Sick students should be sent
home as soon as possible.
     ● The area where a student is isolated should be cleaned or disinfected as
soon as possible after the student has been sent home.
     ● Sick students are not to return to school until they meet the criteria to
return to school.


Return to Work/School


     ● Employees and students who test positive for the virus or have a
member of their household test positive will be required to be
isolated and prohibited from returning to school/work until meeting
the CDC requirement:
    ● Employees or students who believe or know they have COVID-19, and have had
no symptoms, may not return to school/work without all the following conditions
being met:
○ 3 days with no fever without fever reducing drugs
○ Symptoms improved
○ 10 days since symptoms first appeared
    ● Employees or students who have tested positive for COVID-19, but have had no
symptoms, may not return to school/work until:
○ 10 days have passed since being tested
● Employees or students who have had close contact with someone who has tested
positive for COVID-19 may not return to school/work until:
○ 14 days after exposure (communication of the situation and expectations
will be clear and ongoing, as needed)


Contingency Planning


● In the event that a student or staff member tests positive or becomes ill due
to COVID-19, Latta Public School will consult with the Pontotoc County
Health Department and other health care authorities. The district will follow
their guidance as to how to proceed in order to maintain the safest
possible environment.


Environment & Facilities


A. Physical spacing
    ● Classrooms and facilities will be arranged to maximize distancing. All teachers
will keep an up-to-date seating chart for each class.
    ● Sneeze Guards will be placed in strategic locations.
    ● Sharing of instructional materials will be minimized and any items shared will be
routinely disinfected.
    ● Signage will be displayed to encourage social distancing.
    ● Sanitation supplies and PPE will be available in all classrooms.
    ● School visitors will be limited to necessary visits. Outside doors will be secured
once school has started each day. Meetings with parents or the community will be
conducted by telephone, computer teleconference or other agreed upon means
where it is practical.
    ● In person meetings may be allowed using proper social distancing protocols and
temperature checks.


B. Cleaning Protocols:

    ● Custodial staff will receive additional training in cleaning to prevent the
spread of infection.
    ● Increased frequency of cleaning high-touch surfaces - Instructional and office
staff will have cleaning supplies and PPE necessary to support custodial staff in
cleaning high touch areas.
    ● Cleaning Supplies & PPE - All staff will have cleaning supplies and PPE necessary
to support custodial staff in cleaning high touch areas and maintaining a safe
workspace
    ● PPE/Cleaning Supplies - PPE such as gloves, hand sanitizer, masks,
etc. will be available through each principal’s office. For cleaning supplies,
contact the maintenance staff.


Bus Transportation:


    ● Drivers will be equipped with masks and gloves.
    ● Buses will be disinfected after each route.
    ● PPE and disinfectant supplies will be available on the bus.
    ● Masks - parents will be surveyed concerning masks
    ● Riders will be expected to social distance on the bus as much as seating allows.
    ● Windows on the bus will be opened/cracked as the weather permits.
    ● All bus riders will ride in assigned seats and bus drivers will keep an up-to-date seating chart.


Scheduling Adjustments:


    ● Virtual Days - Latta School will schedule 6 virtual school days in the calendar.
This will provide practice for both teachers and students to learn and improve
upon this form of instructional practice. This will ensure the best possible
educational outcomes in the event that our school facilities were to be temporarily
closed due to another outbreak.
    ● School Facilities Closure - Schools may be closed in the event of an outbreak.
This will only be done after consultation with the Pontotoc County Health
Department and other health authorities. In the event that the school facilities are
closed, Latta Schools will implement its distance learning plan.


Enrollment:


    ● Online Enrollment - Enrollment at Latta Schools will now be conducted
online. Accommodations can be made to assist families with no or limited
internet access so they may enroll their students.
Professional Development
   ● Additional professional development in distance learning will be provided
to instructional staff members prior to the start of school.
   ● Staff will also receive professional development concerning COVID-19 and
ways to reduce its spread.


Distance/Virtual Learning Planning:


   ● Latta staff members will receive additional training in distance learning
prior to the start of school.
   ● Latta Schools will have a plan for both in-person schooling and virtual
school.
   ● The calendar for in-person school will include 6 virtual days. The virtual
days are intended to provide practice in virtual learning for both students
and staff.


Child Nutrition


   ● In order to maintain maximum spacing and a safe environment in the Cafeteria:
   ● Student grades PK-6 will eat meals in the classroom
   ● Students in grades 7-12 will eat in smaller groups in the cafeteria or an
alternate area


Athletic Contests
   ● Social Distancing -
       ○ Protocols will be established for social distancing of athletes, coaches and
game official as well as any workers necessary to conduct the games
   ● Signage
       ○ Signage will be posted at the facility encouraging social distancing of fans
and the proper hygiene necessary to reduce the spread of respiratory
diseases
   ● Cleaning Facility
       ○ Facilities will be cleaned and disinfected with special attention to
high-touch areas including bathrooms and dressing rooms.
