Teacher of the Year

Latta Public School is honored to announce their 2020-2021 Teachers of the Year.

Mrs. D'Ann Wyche has been named the 2020-2021 Latta Elementary Site and District Teacher of the Year, and Ms. Julie Bruner has been named as Latta’s Secondary Site Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. D’Ann Wyche has been named the 2020-2021 Latta Elementary and District Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Wyche is a preschool teacher at Latta Public School.  She is a proud graduate of East Central University where she graduated with her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Elementary Education and holds endorsements in math and early childhood education.

She is married to Dan Wyche, who is a journeyman at PEC, and they have two wonderful children who attend Latta schools.   DT  is a sophomore and Dash is a 4th grader.  Mrs. Wyche is the daughter of Don and Shirley Boatright of Roff and has one sister, Keisha Brewer and her husband Randall, of Branson, Missouri.

Mrs. Wyche is currently in her twenty-first year of teaching.  She completed her student teaching experience with Mrs. JaNell Fleming at Latta and then spent the first three years of her teaching career in 3rd grade with Wanette Public Schools.  She was then hired at Latta to teach preschool alongside Mrs. Mary Shivers, a wonderful  mentor and friend.  She has taught preschool at Latta Elementary for the last eighteen years.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Latta teachers of the year were announced in a unique way at a retirement parade for some deserving Latta retirees.  When informed of this award, Mrs. Wyche stated, “If you know me well, you know this couldn’t have fit me any better….standing on a toolbox in the back of a truck! It’s not very often I am at a loss for words.  I love what I do, I could never have a job that I love more.  Each and every day is a new experience in PK.  Latta is a great community, and I am proud to be a part of it.  Latta is more than my place of employment, it is my family.  I take pride in seeing kids I have taught reach their goals and being successful.  It is a great honor to be selected as this year’s Teacher of the Year.”

She is a highly valued member of the teaching staff, and she is very deserving of this prestigious honor.

Ms. Julie Bruner has been named as Latta’s  2020-2021 Secondary Site Teacher of the Year.

Ms. Bruner is an eighth through twelfth grade science teacher for Latta Public Schools.   She is a proud graduate of the 2004 graduating class of Healdton High School in Healdton, Oklahoma.  After high school, she attended East Central University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology with a teacher certification and a minor in Chemistry as well as a master’s degree in Secondary Education.

Ms. Bruner is currently in her twelfth year of teaching.  She spent the first eight years of her career teaching sixth through eighth grade science at Sulphur Middle School and has taught eighth through twelfth grade science at Latta for the last four years.  In addition to her classroom responsibilities, Ms. Bruner is the Latta Middle School and Latta High School academic team coach and the high school science fair coordinator.

Ms. Bruner is the daughter of Larry and Virginia Bruner of Healdton, OK, and the granddaughter of the late Bob and Betty Dunlap of Del City, OK, and the late Cecil and Delores Bruner of Healdton, OK.

Ms. Bruner says, “Some say that ‘teaching is the profession that inspires all other professions.’ I find there are aspects of teaching that inspire me daily. Foremost is the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for science with my amazing students. It is rewarding to see them grow and learn with every new topic we discuss. At Latta, I have had the opportunity to have many groups of students multiple years in a row. Their willingness to try new things and learn more about the world around them inspires me every day. I am also inspired by my fellow teachers, staff, and administrators. They are truly the best in education. I feel very honored that these masters of the craft chose me for the Secondary Teacher of the Year. I consider it a  joy and privilege to come to work every day and be surrounded by such an extraordinary group that inspires me to continue to grow as a teacher. I also consider it a true blessing to be a part of the Latta community. When I began teaching at Latta, I was told that I was now a member of the Panther Nation, and it is absolutely true. The community support, kindness, and togetherness shown by the Latta community is awe inspiring and truly touches my heart. I feel very thankful to be a part of such a wonderful community.”

Latta is honored to have Ms. Bruner.
