***IMPORTANT NOTICE***
Attention Parents of Sixth Grade Students, the Oklahoma State Board of Health has recently added a new vaccine requirement for seventh grade students. Beginning in the Fall 2011 school semester, all seventh grade students will be required to show proof of having one dose of Tdap vaccine before enrollment or attendance is allowed. Tdap vaccine is considered a booster to the DTaP vaccine that is required for Kindergarten entry. Please provide your students updated shot records at the time of enrollment.
The primary responsibility of the school nurse is to strengthen the educational process by protecting, maintaining and promoting the health of students and staff. To do this, the Latta Public Schools have staffed a Registered Nurse to serve their students. The school nurses daily responsibilities include:
•providing basic first aid
•providing emergency first aid
•administering medications and treatments
•monitoring immunizations records for compliance with state laws
Our school nurses main office is in the Latta Elementary building. Service is available for elementary, junior high, and high school students. The school nurse is available from the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. Our school nurse is certified in CPR and First Aid through the American Heart Association.
In addition to her other responsibilities, our nurse is continuously involved in health counseling, health assessments, health screenings, health referrals, crises intervention, wellness screenings, health education, and emergency first aid assessments.
