Congratulations to Nathan Eidson and Caisen Herrera for their success at the 2nd round of OkCDA auditions! Nathan was selected for the Junior High All State Mixed Chorus, and Caisen for the Junior High All State Treble Chorus. This is a huge accomplishment and we are very proud of their hard work. We also want to give a shout out to Isaak Hamilton who was selected as a 2nd Alternate for the High School All State Mixed Chorus.
Culinary Basics’ Pie Week was a success! Each student made their own crust and chose what pie to make to take home.

The Latta Elementary Physical Education department is thankful for its amazing partnership with the Chickasaw Nation. The Chickasaw Nation has taught our elementary PE students about Native American cultural & how to play Stick Ball and Archery Tag the past few months. In honor of November being Native American Month we want to give them a huge “THANK YOU” shoutout.

Congratulations to our 8th grade boys for winning the Konawa tournament!
Congratulations to Kylee Sutton on being crowned Mr. Reeves' Ag I Made in Oklahoma (MIO) Champion. Students are challenged to create a recipe that includes 75% MIO ingredients. Kylee's Bacon Cheeseburger Bombs took the first prize, and were superb. Some spotlight ingredients include ground beef from Casady Farms, Head Country original BBQ Sauce, Head Country Dry Rub and Blue and Gold Bacon. Kylee not only wins bragging rights, but also a prize of $100. Way to go!
Congrats to our 7th and 8th grade Lady Panthers for bringing home some hardware in the Konawa Tournament! 7th grade won the consolation bracket and 8th grade won 3rd place.
Today Alyssa Brito spoke to the Native American Club and the junior high and high school FCA groups. We would like to thank her for coming to Latta and sharing her story.

Piper Daniel placed 1st in FCCLA’s district STAR events in Repurpose and Redesign. She advances to the regional competition in February. Way to go Piper!

During the 12th-14th of November, 2024, tribal-citizen students and guests of the Latta
FFA Chapter participated in a Tribal Meat Inspection Bootcamp, made possible by the Tribal Agriculture Fellowship (TAF). The participants were immersed in learning opportunities related to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the American Meat Science Association (AMSA), and more.
The entirety of the bootcamp was an exploratory opportunity for participants to enrich
their knowledge of meat inspection, regulations surrounding food safety, and learn more about jobs available in the USDA realm. Presentations on these topics were provided by Sharon Beale of the AMSA and Women’s Meat Industry Network, Robert Maddock of the AMSA, and Jasmine Locklear of TAF. Bringing insight from years in the food safety industry, these individuals were able to impart incredible knowledge on the workshop. Participants were also given the opportunity to tour both state and federally inspected local meat processing facilities.
On Thursday, November 14th, the Tribal Meat Inspection Bootcamp brought in a featured
guest, Dr. Hany Sidrek. Dr. Sidrek was appointed the Deputy Assistant Director for the
USDA-FSIS Office of Field Operations in May 2018. He is committed to ensuring the FSIS’
Strategic Goals- 1: Prevent Foodborne Illness and Protect Public Health; 2: Transform Inspection Strategies, Policies and Scientific Approaches to Improve Public Health; 3: Achieve Operational Excellence- are successfully implemented. Dr. Sidrek spoke to workshop participants about his role within USDA-FSIS, the impact of his department, and opportunities within food safety in the United States.
The conclusion of the Tribal Food Inspectors Bootcamp consisted of a traditional meal
celebrating the heritage of Plains tribes, and a discussion about opportunities available to tribal youth involved in agriculture with Jeff Caskey of the Intertribal Agriculture Council.
Beau Griffin and Jake LaMack of Latta FFA competed at the Poteau Welder's Rodeo recently. They took a written test and a tool ID before firing up their welding rig and building a gate to preset specifications. They finished in the top 15.
It’s time for the annual Latta Special Olympic Fundraiser!!
Tutoring will end tomorrow at 3:30, and there will be no tutoring on Thursday. Mrs. Hisaw will do tutoring the week after Thanksgiving Break. She is located in the 5th grade building.

DECA Power Trip! Jacoby Impson and Kaiden Harjo represented Oklahoma. They have been to Beal Street, BB Kings, Presley Home, Knoxville , Smokey Mtn tour, by Dollyville, Toured Bush Bean Factory and General Store, Toured the Vanderbilt Biltmore Grounds and Mansion, DECA Leadership Convention, Blue Mountain Pizza,Billy Graham Museum, DECA at spectrum Center, DECA Night at NASCAR Hall of Fame. Joined the DECA miracle minute raising over 15,000 dollars in Helena Relief and adopting a pediatric cancer project.
